Ishaan – The Best Direction

It is a well known fact that ‘Ishaan’ or ‘North East’ direction is the best direction duly considering all the aspects in vaastu.I have been trying to explore all the possible reasons for the same, of course we all know very well that East is the direction in which Sun rises and it is the prime source of life in this world. Sun is the soul of the Kalpurush as per astrological classics. Soul is the fulcrum of life around which it revolves.

In my effort to know more and more on the subject, I have been going through many classics too on the subject but almost in every reference the explaination about why this direction is the best of all is not so much talked. I have made an attempt in the following way and submit my approach to the readers for their constructive suggestions and feedback.

Let us look at the ‘KaalPurush’ kundli, the very basis of astrology.

Ishaan or North East direction is depicted by a quadrant comprising of first four houses represented by matching signs of the zodiac. This quadrant encompasses Aries, Tauras, Gemini and Cancer signs of zodiac.

First sign Aries: It is owned by Mars and Sun gets exalted in this position. This also corresponds to first house whose significator is Sun. Saturn gets debilitated here.

Second sign Tauras: It is owned by Venus and Moon gets exalted in this position. This also corresponds to second house whose significator is Jupiter.
Moon represents mind and venus represents affection, disposition. These in a combined way represent the qulity of life, the way we wish to live.

Third sign Gemini: It is owned by Mercury. This also corresponds to third house whose significator is Mars.
Mercury makes one individualistic and eloquent.

Fourth sign Cancer: It is owned by Moon and Mars gets debilited in this position. This also corresponds to fourth house whose significators are Moon and Mercury.

From above we can without any doubt establish that it is the most potent and powerful direction which is indicated by majestic planets by Sun, Mars, Jupiter besides being supported by Venus and Moon. Per vaastu principles Jupiter is the lord of Ishaan or North East direction who is a benefic planet for wisdom, expansion, growth, learning etc. On the negative side of it the defects in North East direction effect health, career, progeny and wealth.

From above we can very well see that Ishaan or North East direction contains the light of Sun, energy of Mars and beneficience of Jupiter duly supported by coolness of Moon and affection of Venus.

Per Vaastu principles, it is always recommended that slopes should be in the Ishaan or North East direction. One of the reason could be that the slopes will faciltate capturing of maximum energy from this direction and may be this is the reason Mars gets debilitated in the fourth house. Another aspect to this may be that if you need to be receipent of maximum goodness from every one you need to be humble and keep your head down. In Vaastu purush kundali also face is down wards though head points towards Ishaan or North East direction. It is also the angular mid point of East and North. East is the direction of rising Sun and along with Lord Indra they become the directional lords which confer position, power and prosperity.

North is the coolest direction of which Lord kuber and Mercury are the rulers. They jointly shower health and wealth on people.

Similar corelation can be established between vaastu elements and planets as below;
Sun – Agni, Moon – Jal, Mars – Agni, Mercury – Earthy, Jupiter – Akash, Venus – Jal, Saturn – Vayu. So, it can be seen that all five elements are present in this quadrant.

I think there is a link to the status of the planets which also contribute in making the subject direction a supreme direction.

Mars – Commander
Mercury – Heir to the throne
Jupiter & Venus – Ministers

Why it is said that water sources, fountains and similar things are good in Ishaan or North East direction. It is because in ‘Kaal Purush’ kundali Ishan or North East direction is coincidentally at the end and start of Tauras and Gemini signs which signify earthy and watery elements.

With this may I conclude that Ishaan or North East direction gets its importance from the lumanries and other planets like Mars, Jupiter and Venus.
